How much do you know about traffic tickets in Ontario?

  • Over 103,738 speeding tickets were handed out in Ontario by law enforcement in 2021. Among these, there was 948 stunt driving tickets issued, which is a serious crime of speeding over 50km/h. From January to the end of March 2022, the police issued 21,000 speeding tickets and 270 stunt driving tickets. In addition to the monetary penalty for speeding, it will also affect your driving record and annual insurance premiums.

The government may issue you a suspension and require you to take relevant driving courses based on the type of license you possess.

  • In order to promote safe driving, Ontarians are required to follow some strict driving rules, including laws prohibiting drinking and driving, careless driving, “stunt” driving, and fleeing the police or accident scenes. For driving violations, the court may also impose a fine of several thousand dollars along with a long suspension. Thrill/Stunt Driving

The new penalties for “Thrill/Stunt Driving” in 2022 include completing and paying a mandatory driver improvement course within 60 days of conviction or losing license. In addition, drivers may face:

  • Fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000

  • Suspension for 1-3 years

  • Up to six months in prison

  • Deduction of six points

  • Substantial increase in insurance premiums
